It is hard to believe that the school year is over, however it is and the kids are home for two months! You have to be a very strong person to survive summer vacation, and have many different activities to keep your children occupied.
First of all, kids have what seems like an infinite amount of energy. They just keep going. When there is nothing for them to do, they will whine, and complain and make your life miserable.
You can take them for day trips to different attractions, however they can be very expensive and in today’s economy, you cannot do it everyday.
So what do you do… well use your imagination.
Cooling off on a hot summer day is a child’s most chosen activity. However, I have never been a big advocate of public swimming pools. You never know what’s been in them or how clean they really are.
Here’s what you do! Visit your local Wal-Mart and purchase an inflatable pool for the yard. They are not expensive and can be used year after year. They are not deep, but they do the job of cooling off the kids.
Another item that you can purchase is an inflatable waterslide. This will keep kids occupied for hours and hours.
While you are at Wal-mart visit the toy department and purchase every kind of outdoor toy there is from bubbles to badminton. If you cannot afford it have your children pick out a few toys that they like.
For the days when it is too hot or it is rainy, I came up with the idea of a crafts closet.
Choose a room or a closet that was seldom used. Put in kid size tables and chairs in it. To fill the craft closet, I recommend visiting your local dollar store.
A dollar store can be a mother’s best friend! You can fill the craft closet with everything the dollar store has to offer! And all at a fraction of the price of retail stores, and to store your crafting treasures, most dollar stores carry plastic containers with lids.
Your craft closet will be brimming with beads and glue and feathers and glitter! More then the imagination can comprehend. The kids can create artistic masterpieces and because it is in the craft closet, the mess is minimal! The kids will be happy, and mom will not have a stress overload!
Happy summer to all!!!
